Who we are
For the last 15 years, East Melbourne Psychology has been helping people from all walks of life.
We are a group of accredited psychologists, most with at least 10 years of experience in counselling. We are passionate about emotional wellbeing and tackling life’s challenges.
We strongly believe in the value of creating a safe space and fostering a secure relationship between a therapist and their client. We employ a variety of evidence-backed strategies to take on the issues at hand.

Sara Van Hecke
Sara is a Clinical Psychologist who has had extensive training in relationship work and couples therapy. She has over 15 years experience working with couples and is known for her warm and direct approach. She also has a strong interest in complimentary health particularly in relation to cancer and has worked extensively with women around dealing with breast cancer.
Sara strives to provide a non-judgemental warm atmosphere with a focus on working collaboratively with each client to bring about positive change in his or her circumstances.

Simon Baxter
Simon has had many years of experience working with adults and particularly with men. His focus is in helping clients to develop awareness and to relieve distress associated with thoughts, feelings and behaviour using an integrative approach.

Dr Rebecca Deering
Rebecca works with both adults and adolescents. She has had many years experience in the treatment of child sexual abuse as well as extensive experience in the areas of anxiety, depression, addiction, personality and eating disorders, using an integrative treatment approach that combines both cognitive behavioural treatment interventions with mindfulness practice.

Jessica George
Jessica is a clinical psychologist with over ten years experience, primarily at headspace (youth mental health) and in private practice. She is a long-term member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society. Jessica incorporates evidence-based therapies to assist her clients in effectively managing their distress and developing meaningful lives. She utilises a variety of therapeutic modalities, with a keen interest in mindfulness-based approaches.

Joel Hoo
Joel is a good-humoured and responsive Clinical Psychologist who cares deeply about the work he does. He has a lively and collaborative therapeutic style, and his clinical work is guided by values of compassion, thoughtfulness, curiosity, and authenticity. He sees the world through a multicultural lens and works hard to create a safe space in therapy where people feel heard and accepted.
Joel has spent several years in the public sector working with individuals with severe and enduring mental illness. He utilizes a range of evidence-based treatments including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Sharon Prendergast
Sharon is a registered psychologist with 20 years of experience working with adults and adolescents. She has a warm and friendly nature and works collaboratively to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the way in which their experiences, thinking and beliefs shape their mental health and interpersonal relationships. She has a practical and pragmatic approach to developing new skills to improve wellbeing, utilising a range of techniques including CBT, ACT, strengths and values-based approaches and Mindfulness
